Stars on Ice

Last night Paige, my mom, and I went to the Stars on Ice show at the Energy Solutions Arena.  It was fun for us to have a girls night out.  Mike surprised us with tickets a couple of weeks ago and the seats were great.  We rode Trax down which made it easy.  We didn't have to deal with parking, just all the interesting people that you find riding.
Our first stop was at Gateway and we grabbed some food at Thaifoon.  Then we headed to the arena.  It was cool to see all the big name skaters in person.  Paige was on the edge of her seat the whole time. Some of the skaters they had there were Sash Cohen, Sarah Hughes, Kurt Browning, Todd Eldridge, Ekaterina Gordeeva, Jamie Sale and David Pelletier, and many others.  The show was produced by Scott Hamilton (my mom has always loved him). It was also the tenth anniversary to the 2002 Winter Olympics so Mitt Romney started off the show with Kristi Yamaguchi.  I did get some pictures, but I had to take my little point and shoot camera because they wouldn't allow cameras with removable lenses.  I know I would have got much better pictures with the other camera, but at least we got some right?

The Yurt at Solitude

This year Robin and I decided we would surprise the guys with a nice dinner for Valentine's Day.  We planned it all out and they had no clue what we were doing.  Yesterday I gave Mike a new pair of boots and told him Happy Valentine's Day.  He looked so confused......  Before we left the only thing he knew was that he needed snow boots, warm clothing, and we were taking wine.  We dropped the kids of at Grandma and Grandpa's and headed up the canyon.  The guys were convinced we were going to give them the wine and then leave them stranded up in the mountains.

We arrived at Solitude and had some time to spare so we stopped in at the Thirsty Squirrel.  Honestly, I just wanted to go there because of the name.  It turned out to be a pretty cool place.  Around 5:00 we met at the Adventure Station and got our snow shoes.  By this time the guys had almost figured out what we were doing.  We then headed up the mountain with our snow shoes.  The Yurt was a lot smaller than I thought, but it was nice and intimate.  We had a delicious 5 course dinner. The food was soooo good! I was really impressed with the chef, there is no electricity and no running water.  There is a large propane stove that she cooks the meals in; it also kept us nice and warm. After filling our bellies we headed back down the mountain to the Village.  I think if we do it again I want to stay the night there.  We passed by the hot tubs and they looked so nice!

I think they had a great time and they were definitely surprised! Happy Valentine's Day!

Winter Games 2012-Freestyle

We made it through another Winter Games.  It was fun having it at our rink and I think it went really well.  There were a few little problems, but nothing major.  I had the opportunity to help out with the registration desk and handing out awards.  I have to say, that after handing out awards Paige made me even more proud as a mom.  I was shocked at some of the girls and the way they treated others.  Honestly, there were a few that I wanted to knock right of the top of the podium, but I contained myself....

Paige did a great job and took 4th place!  This was a new level for her and there was some really good competition. Poor thing was sick too, when we got home from the rink on Saturday night she had a fever of 103.  Great job Paigey! We love you!

Winter Games 2012-Showcase

Winter Games is here again.  Tonight Paige had her Showcase program, Singing In The Rain.  She did great and took third place! This time they combined Freeskate 5 and Freeskate 6 so she had some pretty good competition.  We are so proud of her, she has worked really hard on her camel spin.  On Saturday she will be competing again.  Good Luck Paige!

At the end you can hear a bunch of laughter.  They let you throw items on the ice for the skaters this time.  Logan has a great arm, but his aim was a little off.  It ended up two sections over.  Love ya Logan!
